Contemporary jewelry at Milan Design Week 2018

Every year, in April, Milan turns into an exhibition hall of design events, installations and performances. Hundreds of innovative projects are distributed in different areas of  the city, international craftsmen and designers come together to showcase their extraordinary creations.
I visited few jewelry events which, I believe, present the works of some of the most interesting artist at the cutting edge of international jewelry design.

Rossini Gallery

The exhibition Outsidelounge 2018 was curated by Rossini Gallery, which proposes artists’ works selected among sculptors, goldsmiths and designer in a permanent exhibition with unique pieces and limited edition.
The pieces presented in the gallery were the result of jewelry research and experiments with the use of non-precious metals, materials and traditional jewelry techniques. The pieces were distinguished by geometric shapes, textured surfaces, curious approaches to metal processing, as well as personal artist’s experience and vision.

No Matter Matters, organised by Adornment-Curating Contemporary art Jewelry, present the works of 14 artists and designers of contemporary jewelry, whose work is characterized by the use of original and unusual materials.
From concrete to resin, from synthetic materials to natural ones, from slate to cork, the range of materials used for the creation of the exhibited pieces is endless. A vast open world of experimentation applied to jewelry that allows it to be identified as a support for much more articulated and complex technical, aesthetic and artistic research. Every artist is characterized by their own universe of signs, identity and history.

The chat app is what the cigarette was in the last century: a symbolic consumption good that makes a significant contribution to the running of the economy. But somewhere in the system are hidden costs that cannot be felt immediately. In the case of the cigarette, lungs are slowly destroyed. But what is the hidden cost of becoming device people? And how can a piece of jewelry respond to this transformation?
